HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — There is a unique problem in the Huntingdon Area School District.
School officials say its music department "doesn't have enough instruments to go around" as nearly the entire fourth grade class at the Southside Elementary School signed up for band next school year.
On Wednesday, the school district held a "walk-a-thon" to raise money for more instruments.
Southside Elementary School Director Rick Kane says the walk started at midnight in Huntingdon Borough and continued during the day until participants made it to one-hundred-thousand steps.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Sixth-grade students at Logan Elementary in Altoona hosted their annual immigration day event for their families.
The students looked into their own history and were asked to find out where their ancestors came from.
Students also researched why their families came to America and what their ancestors did when they got here. Each student made a display showing his or her family history and cooked ethnic foods to share.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Thursday marked the 50th anniversary of Title IX becoming law. The landmark law's had an impact on the lives of American women, and people in Centre County celebrated its signing at Penn State University.
It was a long, difficult march to achieve Title IX. Penn State celebrated that on Thursday by marching from the "We Are" statue to Old Main, where they held a rally.
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Blair County are providing new details about an hours-long standoff earlier this month in Altoona as officials say the suspect is now facing nearly two dozen charges, including arson and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
Police say during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 2nd, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Rosehill Drive for a "911 misdial."
Authorities say the caller, later identified as 28-year-old Tershar Miller, reportedly told police that he had a gun and threatened to shoot officers if they approached the residence.
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — UPMC Altoona will be hosting a "healthy living fair" on Saturday, in the lower level of the Blair County Convention Center.
The health fair runs from 9 a.m. until noon and admission is free.
The event will feature over 20 specialists talking about osteoporosis screening measures, mammography and more.
They will also be partnering with the Altoona AMBUCS to provide $65 vouchers for comprehensive blood screenings.
ADDISON TOWNSHIP - Surveillance footage captured two men breaking into the Anchor In Restaurant and Bar Sunday.
Around 5 a.m., owners said two men entered the restaurant and bar through a back door.
"Then they destroyed the place, trashed it, and out the door they went," co-owner Vicky Vignoli said.
The Anchor Inn is filled with surveillance cameras, capturing it all on film. One of the men walked up to one of the cameras and faced it.
Jeannette, Pennsylvania (WPXI) — Authorities say an intense house fire claimed five lives from the same family early Wednesday morning in western Pennsylvania.
Officials in the city of Jeannette say a 27-year-old father and four of his children were killed as the fire consumed their home.
According to the Westmoreland County coroner, their ages ranged from one-month to seven-years old.
Fire officials say a woman and two other children were rescued from the house before the flames spread.
SOUTH CAROLINA (WACH) — The South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) informed the SC Supreme Court on Tuesday that they are now prepared to carry out executions by lethal injections.
Since 2017, Gov. Henry McMaster has been calling on the General Assembly to pass a Shield Statute.
The SC General Assembly passed legislation this year to enact the Shield Statute.
Justice has been delayed for too long in South Carolina," said Governor Henry McMaster.
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — For the second straight week, the Pittsburgh Steelers defense was able to "shut the door" on its opponent and seal the victory, however, both wins have come at a cost.
According to multiple reports, Steelers' inside linebacker Kwon Alexander is believed to have suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Pittsburgh's 23-19 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

(WSET) — Hammerhead worms have been spotted across the United States - most recently in the East Coast. The recent reporting stated the worm was in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. Theresa Dellinger, an entomologist with the Insect Identification Lab at Virginia Tech, explained that the worm has been around for some time.
The Texas Invasive Species Institute reported it started getting reports of the hammerhead worm in Texas in the 1980s.
