BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WJAC) — Another former Penn State fraternity member is allowed to serve his punishment at home. Former Beta Theta Pi member Luke Visser was resentenced Wednesday to 45 days of home confinement and six months of probation instead of serving a maximum six months in jail. Judge Brian Marshall resentenced two other former Beta Theta Pi members last month to the same terms. Visser pleaded guilty to hazing charges surrounding the 2017 death of Timothy Piazza.

Judge bars enforcement of ban on guns at Philadelphia city parks, pools

Somerset Co. event to teach about life-saving skills

An event teaching individuals life-saving skills is taking place in Somerset County Saturday. The Minutes Matter event will teach life-saving skills to individuals of all ages, which include hands-only CPR, Stop the Bleed, how to help someone in a mental health crisis, as well as overdose awareness and prevention, where people will be taught how to use Narcan, among others. Altoona man confessed to fatally stabbing mother after leap from parking garage: Police

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — UPDATE #4: Police say an Altoona man fatally stabbed his mother in the neck during an argument. Altoona police provided new details Thursday surrounding the murder of 61-year-old Maureen Mazenko. Police say they were called to the 200 block of E. Maple Avenue where they found Mazenko dead in the living room of the residence. Police say Joshua Leyo lived there with his mother. They say they learned Leyo was seen at the UPMC Altoona Hospital Emergency Room Tuesday morning and was treated for a hand laceration.

UPMC reports massive data breach, thousands of patients potentially affected

Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — UPMC is reporting a massive data breach that likely affected more than 36,000 patients, according to a press release. Officials say the data breach was reported to them by Charles J. Hilton & Associates, who provides billing-related legal services to the health system, whose email system was reportedly hacked. An investigation reportedly revealed that some thousands of patients may have had their personal data, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or bank or financial account numbers, accessed by the hackers.
