'Take Our Border Back' convoy holds rally in Texas

QUEMADO, Texas (WOAI/KABB) — The "Take Our Border Back" convoy rallied near the Southern border in Texas Saturday afternoon.

The event at the Cornerstone Children's Ranch in Quemado, about 20 miles northwest of Eagle Pass, attracted several hundred people and featured music and numerous merchandise tents.

The convoy, which left Virginia Beach on Monday, is made up of a coalition of people that are traveling to the Southern borders in Texas, Arizona and California. It says it is peacefully protesting the record numbers of migrants illegally crossing over from Mexico.

The goal is simple to shed light on the obvious dangers posed by wide open Southern borders, to request all laws of our U.S. Constitution be immediately upheld, to slow and ultimately stop drug trafficking & human trafficking associated with open borders and to call for immediate action to secure our borders before irreversible serious consequences befall our nation," the group said in a statement.

Convoy leaders argue the Biden administration needs to do more to fix the problem.

Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent were the headliners at a rally Friday night in Dripping Springs where about 1,000 people, many of whom drove from across the state, crowded into the One Shot Brewery and Distillery for the event.

In a video the group posted online, they say they condemn violence and aren't looking to engage with anyone. They say there are no plans to go to the wall or ports of entry.

Connie Hinton, 56, told the Associated Press she showed up with her father from Austin, Texas, to attend Saturday's rally because "they need to get the people that are here illegally under control.”

The convoy first rolled in Wednesday night. Despite the three-hour delay, a small crowd of people waited for it, which consisted of several dozen trucks and private vehicles, until at least 10 p.m.

It also made a stop in Vado, New Mexico, Thursday for a rally at Vado Speedway Park. Vado is around 40 minutes from El Paso, Texas.
